  13. In a corrupt culture, who you know is more important than what you know. By supporting the collaborators in Kadyrov's regime, you get ahead. It improves your chances if you're applying for a place at University, seeking a government job, tendering for a state contract, applying for an arts grant... etc. This is not a society, where most people follow, "due process". Once you've supported the collaborators, there's no going back. They rest of Chechen society, now hates you. So, you then have to defend the trators, to preserve your own life. If they say, 'Go and serve Putin's cause, in Ukraine', you'll do it.

  14. Don't forget the other losses: 1. About 200,000 emigrated in the first few months of the war. 2. 5-700,000 fled, during the partial mobilisation. All those people (mostly men, of working age), are now spending their savings in other countries.

  16. Sadly, there are cultural predispositions in Russia, to having authoritarian government. Even if you established a liberal democracy there, it would not last long in such a corrupt society. A new Putin, would eventually rise. The break up of Russia and China, is the best hope, for a better world.

  20. ​ @andyrihn1  Kazakhstan should have Russia's UNSC seat. The seat was originally allocated to the Soviet Union. When the USSR broke up, Russia was not the last member, to leave. It was the second, last. Kazakhstan, was still a member. So the seat belongs to that nation.

He wasn't expecting so many nations to be footing the bill for the Ukrainian side of the action. It's not only NATO members either. Japan, Australia, Canada, South Korea, New Zealand... etc. Putin's economic, industrial, military, or human reserves, are no match for the combination backing Ukraine.
