@warior98 Shell wants its gas fields back. Lots of money spent, but Russia took possession before Shell could get any returns. Europe also needs alternatives, to Russian energy. NATO would ultimately love to have facilities, based in the Donetsk region. The invasion of Ukraine has justified it. Repossession of the Crimea then becomes Ukraine's bargaining chip with its Western allies.

There is another element worth considering. "Empires", can't appear to their subjects, to have lost a military conflict. This could stir rebellion, amongst separatist elements. It was the reason that the British, sent Churchill back to the Dardanelles for the Gallipoli campaign, after the unsuccessful Naval attempt, to reach the Black Sea. Putin may be similarly forced, to keep trying until he fails completely.

@segalliongaming8925 Ukraine will remain vulnerable as long as Russia occupies the Crimea. Some of the nations supporting Ukraine, have already stated that they made a mistake by letting Russia annex the peninsula. So, if they don't support attempts to retake the Crimea, Russia will simply repeat its invasion, when the time is right. I don't think Western leaders (and their voters), believe that Putin/Russia can be trusted to keep any agreement. They don't want to keep having to spend this sort of money, every 20 years. I hope they see it that way, though I know that they will also be under pressure domestically, as the recession bites.

Agreed. Just talk to the 50 cent army bots from China, about their 1979 invasion of Vietnam. They either don't know about it, or claim that China, "achieved its goals".
