As its labour force becines more expensive, a country must transition to knowlege intensive, highly value added industries, to avoid falling into the middle income trap (e.g., Philippines, Brazil, South Africa... etc.). That change, requires a creative, imaginative, free thinking workforce. You won't have such a workforce, when you train children with a Confucian based education, implemented by an authoritarian regime. China has over 140 million graduates. That's more graduates than the total population of nations like, Britain, France, Italy, or Australia. So, where are all the brilliant Chinese inventions, the beautiful symphonies, great discoveries and Nobel laureates? Instead, China remains famous, or its dependence in stolen technology.

  2. CCP policies exacerbated the problem: 1. Forcing companies to base their data centres in China. 2. Forced technology, "sharing". 3. Draconian, "counter espionage", laws. 4. Disregard of copyright laws 5. Theft of intellectual property 6. The impossibility for foreigners to win commercial law suits in China. 7.Hostage diplomacy... etc. It's now, more trouble, than it's worth.
