@Dept246 The international Court of Arbitration, ruled in favour of the Philippines' claim to Scarborough Shoal, and against that of China. Check, if you don't believe me. China is alone, in not recognising that ruling.

@Dept246 The court did rule in favour of the Philippines , on most points. You can check, point by point, if you like and count them up. I never said that the Philippines, owns Scarborough Shoal, as you seem to imply. You have rebutted a point, that I did not make. I said that China is the only nation, that rejects the final ruling. That is a fact. It's what we expect from a country where most people were raised, as an only child. The court did not rule in favour of China, on any points, at all. The rest was deemed to be part of international waters. As I stated earlier, PCA declared there was no evidence that China had historically exercised exclusive control over the waters or resources, hence there was "no legal basis for China to claim historic rights" over the nine-dash line. That ruling, encompasses all of China’s bogus claims, over atolls in the South China Sea, that it has built facilities on, in the last 50 years… and that, absolutely includes, Scarborough Shoal.

Re the South China Sea: China is the only nation in the world, not to accept the ruling of the International Court of Arbitration, on Scarborough Shoal or the Paracel Islands Apparently, China is right and everyone else is wrong. I suppose, it seems that way when you've been raised as an only child.

China was happy to bully the people of South East Asia to extract tribute. Colonialism deprived China of that, ill gotten, income. Too bad. Nobody felt sorry for China. @Dept246 You missed some pertinent points. On 12 July 2016, the PCA ruled in favour of the Philippines on most of her submissions, is correct. Furthermore, that PCA also stated that there was no evidence that China had historically exercised exclusive control over the waters or resources, hence there was "no legal basis for China to claim historic rights" over the nine-dash line. Accordingly, the PCA tribunal decision is ruled as final and non-appealable by either country.

@benpang1396 OK. If you don't like the slang or the shortened termed: the Philippines appealed to the, United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). UNCLOS decided that the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) would function as registry and provide administrative duties in the proceedings. As @Dept246 stated, "A landmark 2016 ruling on the South China Sea by the Permanent Court of Arbitration, which went largely in favour of the Philippines, was not tasked with establishing sovereignty. It ruled China's blockade of the shoal violated international law and said the area was a traditional fishing ground for several countries." Be he\she did not mention that the PCA also stated, there was no evidence that China had historically exercised exclusive control over the waters or resources, hence there was "no legal basis for China to claim historic rights" over the nine-dash line. Accordingly, the PCA tribunal decision is ruled as final and non-appealable by either country. China is the only nation, to reject this ruling.

@Princelywon "So take your European ruling..." The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), is not European. The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) is not European. I am not European, either. Nor am I American or Caucasian. I am not even in the northern hemisphere. The statement, "...your European ruling...", spectacularly displays, your assumptive bias.
