  4. The primary function, of the the reporter embedded with Russian forces, is probably not "journalism", in the sense of public broadcast news. He's likely there, to gather data, for the Chinese military, about their Russian counterparts. Would be interesting to know his full background/CV.

  8. Yes. You're right but the CCP has painted itself into a corner. Changing the policy now, would be an admission that they were wrong. Too much loss of face, especially when they've been criticising the alternative approaches of other governments.
