  1. Deterrence is never a waste of money. By your logic the locks on the doors and windows to my home are a waste of money cos a butglar has never tried to enter and steal from me. The weak get invaded, the strong don't.

  2. There are no truly neutral countries. During WWII, neutral countries like Ireland, Switzerland, Sweden had to make compromises to survive. Switzerland allowed Nazi's to hide their stolen loot and themselves in the county. Sweden allowed Norwegian citizens to train as 'police' officers in their country. Really they were recieving military training so they could liberate Norway. Sweden gave in to British pressure to allow it. Ireland allowed the RAF to cross its border so it could bomb the Nazi navy in the north Atlantic. They also signed a secret defence deal with Britain that would see Britain come to Ireland's aid if the Nazi's invaded.

  3.  @clever_mag_smart5655  so in 1940 Britain should have stopped the attempted Nazi invasion by cutting defence spending and having a nice chat with Hitler? How did that work out for Austria, Poland, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway and France? I'm gonna keep my faith in military strength. As long as Britain is strong no-one will attack us.

  4.  @Censored_Truth_Addict  It took Britain 5 years to rearm from 1934-39, but it took so long cos it was half-hearted. The Yanks took less than half the time when they started rearming in 1939.
