Being descended from William the Conqueror does NOT put you in the line of succession. You have to be a direct descendant of Sophia of Hanover. She has approximately 5,000 descendants most of whom are German.

Letting a Catholic become head of the Church of England would be the same as letting a Anglican lead the Church of Rome as Pope.

@emilybarclay8831 the naming system includes Scotland too. When Elizabeth became Elizabeth II she was sued in Scotland to make her use Elizabeth I because there hadn't been a Elizabeth I there yet, only in England. The court ruled that monarchs should continue from whichever line is highest. So if a James came to the throne, he would be James VIII despite England only being to James II, because has had VII
1
@marybeth1644 it wasn't letters patent because the monarch can't alter the line of succession. It was a law passed by all 15 countries thst had her as their queen.

He served in the Royal Navy

Henry VII was illegitimate. That's why there were so many challengers during his lifetime. People figured that if someone with as weak a claim to the throne as he had could nab it, anyone could
1
Its Henry VIII, not V111
1
When Charles was a child, parliament passed a law saying his father would become regent until Charles turned 18. So if George became a child king, probably Kate would be made regent
1
@JKU109 Harry was given the last name Wales when he served in the Army. He was known as "Captain Wales"
1
@DeeTeeCat2023 there's no such thing as the King of England. Saying so is like me saying Trump is both the President of Florida and the President of the United States
1
Why only one king, why only one duke of Edinburgh?
1
How would you select workjng royals if it did?
1
@hawkeye6135 it isn't a given that heirs become Prince of Wales. Most do but not always
1
No,because she's dead
1
Henry VIII, not V111. It's Roman numerals, not Arab numerals
1
Parliament wouldn't allow him to be king consort. Back in the day Queen Victoria pushed for her husband, Prince Albert, to beome King Consort but Parliament said no every single time. Before that, Queen Anne debated whether her husband a duke from Denmark should get a similar title. The Duke of Marlborough (an ancestor of Winston Churchill) advised her not to so she made him head of the navy

They don't own the jewels. Its like saying Trump owns Air Force One
1
Can a Muslim become pope? Why would the church of England want someone from a different religion as its head?
1
They weren't stripped of HRH, they chose not to use it. And HRH isn't a title it's a style @shade38211
1
It wasn't the queen who did it. It was Sir Nick Clegg who was deputy prime minister from 2010-15. The line of succession can only be altered if the 15 parliaments of the 15 realms all the pass the same altering it. it was quite the challenge for Sir Nick.
1
@alissalatour7332 when Ronald Reagan invited Canada's head of state to a state visit, Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada attended. Afterwards he askedher where she was going next, "I'm going home, Mr President - to Canada."
1
Changing the line of succession requires major legalisation where all the countries that share the monarch pass the same law. If memory serves the changes made in 2013 (the stop younger brothers taking the place of elder sisters) was the first change since 1701.
1
They aren't. You have to be over 21 to counsellor of state
1
No such thing as king of England
1
There is no British empire. And having the kjng involved in government would destroy the royal family.
1
If they are biologically his, yes
1
You're incorrect. All titles are for life unless removed by an Act of Parliament. A Labour MP from York tried to pass a law to give the king and parliament the power to remove dukedoms in 2023 but failed to get enough votes
1
@DeeTeeCat2023 actually, Elizabeth II had nothing to do with the change. Sir Nick Clegg pushed for it. He said he asked Her Majesty what she thought of the change, and she laughed a d said she'd be gone before it mattered.

If Mary had children the marriage treaty stated that England would become part of Spain and her son would be King of Spain
