  1.  @25rsimp  There is no evidence of Atlantean, Egyptian or Athenian civilization 11,600 years ago. How did the Egyptians hear about a War between Atlantis & Athens before any of them even existed? Let's pretend the Egyptians passed the story down via oral tradition for 6,000 years! How many columns or temple walls would've been required to inscribe all of the elaborate details of the Atlantis story after hieroglyphs were invented around 3,000 BC? Did Plato invent 99% of those details? Just because meltwater pulse 1b caused sea levels to rise 100 feet in 500 years doesn't indicate that there was an Advanced Civilization waiting idly for their island to be inundated and for all evidence of their civilization to completely vanish beneath the waves for all eternity. Didn't they notice the sea levels rising? Is that when they moved to the Nile and started building pyramids with telekinesis (as per Graham Hancock)? Plato invented many allegories to use in his philosophical dialogues. The Ancient World is replete with tall tales of mythical lands, hubris and divine retribution. Myths, legends, rumors, jokes are often based on kernels of truth. Is it more probable that Plato was influenced by the destruction of Thera in 1500 BC (and Helike in 373 BC) as well as the Collapse of the Minoan Civilization due to natural disasters and invasion by the Mycenaeans (1200 BC) -- and used those events & other folktales as the basis of his allegory? Or that -- an actual Advanced Ice Age Island Civilization once existed... beyond the Pillars of Hercules... a record of which was preserved for 9,000 years by Egyptians who told Solon in 590 BC who told Dropidus who told Critias the Elder who waited until he was 90 years old to tell his 10-year old grandson Critias who waited 40 years to tell Socrates during a festival -- and Plato overheard them and wrote it all down 40 years later in 360 BC...?
