@dave161256 Internal borders in Europe, sure. But it's only relatively recently that mass-immigration from outside Europe has become common. Also I think you're discounting the role of the Cold-War and NATO in keeping Western Europe largely conflict free since WW2.

@dave161256 Europeans more or less learned (after much bloodshed and a very long period of time) how to live side by side with one another. Adding millions of Arabs and Africans to the mix is madness that will throw Europe into violent conflict yet again (and already is: terrorism). Right-Wing "Populism" as you call it, is a much needed reaction to the mad path Europe is on. If you're seriously worried about the Right-Wing backlash (which I doubt) there is a simple solution. Cut the immigration from outside Europe. Reduce it back the levels it was several decades ago before the Neo-Liberal Era (1980s onwards). Of course the Left will never agree to this, because they can never accept that their (as they see it) good intentions could produce unintended consequences. You could have sat down the German Left in the 1910s and 1920s told them: "Look, if you carry on trying to push this Communism stuff, and the extreme social degeneracy, you will - as night follows day - produce an extreme Fascist reaction that could lead the country to disaster and cause the death of millions" and they'd still continue pushing it.
