Your A1c went down because you avoid carbs, you are still insulin resistant and have done nothing to reverse the cause of your diabetes. You are on target for cardio vascular disaster. Watch the video posted by Cathy Darnell above. Not only is Cyrus a Phd in Nutritional Biochemistry but also a Type 1 who researched insulin resistance. Best of luck to you :-) .

Wow, so refreshing. You both own who you are and that allows for the honesty and freedom to make and correct mistakes. I love pauses in conversation that prove actual thought processes and being in the moment. <3

Sarah Lee: "Comfort and convenience leave very little room for appreciation...." She had wonderful nuggets like that throughout the conversation. Thank you both :-)

You won me back with this episode. ❤️ Forward thinking, honest and no inflated egos. I love the positivity and genuine concern for the well being of all creatures and our planet. We need more of this trajectory. Be kind, share the wealth, extend a hand.

Excellent, uplifting podcast to share on social media -- the right tone (honest and non-preachy) and full of compassion. You are both a tremendous asset to the vegan community. Sending gratitude and love :-) <3

Paul Hawken says that climate deniers and those who believe we're in danger but don't do anything about it are basically on the same level -- by not doing anything. This is where the conversation could have - for at least a few minutes - turned to the positive effects of an individual choice of plant based/vegan lifestyles. EVERYONE can help the environment by Not Eating Meat (or less of it for starters). It was touched upon but it could have been emphasized as a doable, very personal choice that does have impact. It's like voting - each person's choice matters. ETA: I really liked the conversation!! (There is hope?) Since becoming vegan 4 years ago I am so much more aware of the mess we're in...

Ran out of patience for this me me me me presentation. I guess I'm supposed to know what barre 3 is LOL. Don't care.

Fascinating conversation, he's very deep and eloquent - such a surprise. :-) Thanks!

Awesome conversation. So much depth, so much to relate to --- even as a non-runner and much older generation! Plant based though. and that's the win win on all fronts :-) .

Agree. This also ties into the conversation and documentary of last week's guest (The Biggest Little Farm). IMO the benefits of Regenerative Farming can be achieved without killing the animals! Manure production remains the same as they age. Somehow these people suddenly shift their values - explained awkwardly by the mighty dollar sign as the justified end result of a murdered animal. Learn to live with less. All that talk about love -- where's the love and respect for the animals who contribute to our survival? We're all in this together.

Sarah Lee: "The war within is so different from the one we're trained to win....." That goes for civilians as well, because societal norms make it a challenge to find inner peace. The trained behaviors lead us on a side track that ends up being that same vicious cycle. Where do you start? Maybe with a bike ride and helping your comrades, maybe by changing your diet to heal yourself and do the least harm to animals and the planet -- and then by helping others who want to try this solution.

So glad I decided to let this surprise me :-)

So this (Jenn's post) is the Lazy Logic they were referring to...... wow.

Finally getting back to what really matters. Great information and much respect for Pat Brown and his Mission Impossible. PS. comment section is swarming with trolls, ugh. Please don't feed them - unless it's plant based ;-) .

Great podcast and excellent, clear presentations by Cyrus and Robby. .As Type 1 I took part in their program for a year and it helped reduce my insulin use by over 50% and improved many health markers. I tried other whole food plant based approaches before doing this. Reducing fat to 30g a day is crucial for this to work.

The significance of Tom's 2 film school interpretations at the very end of this conversation made up for the almost incomprehensible waterfall of words that preceded it. I love how you can watch Rich's thought process and how it is truly genuine and unique and in the moment -- not the feel I get with the cascade of words coming from Tom, sadly. Is he too ambitious, too driven to make his points readily understood? What if you have a great message but your delivery makes it impossible for it to be heard? So ironic.....

I actually loved the fish chalk blackboard as background. A good (friendly) place to rest the eyes while listening....

Put a hold on her ebook at the library -- I'm #416 of 80 copies.... How quickly am I going to be able to read the book? LOL ------ Good interview, thanks!

YT's algorithm has recently presented me with Bret and Eric Weinstein. I'm not complaining! :-) They are brilliant thinkers.

Will watch "Meet the Patels" later today!!

It will work only if you keep the added fat at or <15% of your diet (or <30 grams a day). I was in the program for a year (Type 1). Anything above but kept reasonably low will improve your health but may not get you off meds. It all depends on how much you can or want to do to follow the guidelines.

@Jasmine-in-my-mind - I too looked at Dr McDougall and esp Dr Fuhrman and it worked until I plateaued. Their approach just wasn't specific enough for diabetes. I trusted that the 2 Type 1s of Mastering Diabetes knew more about this than the docs who don't have this disease and I believe I'm right, esp w Cyrus' science background :-). Re a diet -- I don't eliminate any food group except of course animal products and refined carbs - and processed foods and oils as much as possible. Re beans and such, your microbiome needs to develop the bacteria to digest that type of food if you are not currently consuming it, so go slow and you will be able to tolerate it in the future. PS. My copy of their book will arrive today :-)

Yikes.

So agree! I was thinking that throughout the broadcast and enjoying that it was not a polished performance.

@marley7659 and Linda W, Type 1.5 is an autoimmune response in a person over 30 yrs old and not a progression of Type 2. It is treated with insulin. If Type 2 can no longer be treated with pills, and the beta cells are exhausted, then Type 2 will also be treated with insulin. A reversal of diabetes is only possible for non-insulin dependent Type 2s, but the other types of diabetes can be much improved. ' I have Type 1 and use over 50% less insulin on the Mastering Diabetes program and have other much improved health markers..

I think Rich would not have brought up race as a topic if this situation hadn't suddenly erupted in the US. Since he's going to dig deeper he is bringing in voices to listen to, people with first hand experience - black people. Makes sense to me and is not a current version of "equal opportunity". I'm hoping to learn something.

regarding our Type 2: too much oil in our diet will clog up the cells that are designed to use carbs as fuel. Thus you get high blood glucose levels. Check out Dr. Barnard's research and "Mastering Diabetes" on YT/FB. As diabetic you have to restrict your diet. That's just how it is. (Spoken as Type 1)

I have listened to them many times in the coaching program -- Robby always prefers it when Cyrus explains the science. There was a lot of that in the beginning of the podcast.

Interesting. Wonder what it means if you perceive being touched as too intense, too intrusive. No healing available then.....

@TheDjlivingproof Oh, that's tough! (Type 1 here too, but vegan/wfpb long after diagnosis...)

@Nick Pascale I'm not autistic (I think) and took it seriously as well.... :-| --- Thought he was a mean troll tough.

Now I remember why I stopped listening to this type of podcast. :-/

You missed that it is not just about him. He is mentoring 20 people for example.....

Maybe you need to let go of the book that's in your head and write a different one first?

Karen. the high potential for negative long term effects of keto make this a no-brainer. The positive effects of a whole food plant based life style (good health, no harm to animals, good for the environment) are a win win win and make you feel good on a daily basis, good for body and soul. Each day you make positive choices. What you eat and what you don't eat matters. Multiply that by 1000s. Also, you are correct about the studies. Find out who paid for them. It makes all the difference. Science is a commodity, tobacco showed the industry how to do it in the 50s and 60s. (BTW, there are no WFPB lobbies.)

In 2016 the winner suspected voter fraud because he lost the popular vote.... Let that sink in. How sick (vanity driven) is that? Deja vu all over again, as loser this time.

link as stated at 44:55 :-( (I'm a regular listener to your podcasts - so inspiring <3)
