@msj.randel1496 Actually the word "Hispanic" comes from the name given by the Romans to what is now Spain and Portugal. The name is "Hispania". This is what the Romans called that part of Europe. As for Latinos, Latinos is plural and means Latins in English,. Latino/Latin same word only that in English it's simply "Latin". Well, these are the Latins, linguistically and culturally: Italians, French, Romanians, Portuguese and Spaniards. Now what is "Latin America"? Latin America is that part of this continent where Latin-derived languages are spoken, French, Portuguese and Spanish. Who called it "Latin America"? The "native" Indians? NO. It was the Latin European colonizers: French, Portuguese and Spaniards. They called it that way to distinguish it from the Anglo-Saxon-English-speaking and Protestant North, that is here the United States of America. They were different and want to distinguish themselves. They were Latin speaking and Catholic and this is why they called that area "Latin" America. Latin America is a geographical location and anyone coming or originating from Latin American is a Latin American and not a Latino. Latino already has a Roman meaning and nobody can change.
