You the Spaniards are the real "Hispanics and the real Latino" (It should be LATINS because is grammatically incorrect to say LATINO when speaking or writing in English). I will explain: You are "Hispanics" because you originate from what the Romans called HISPANIA which is the area comprising what is now Spain and Portugal. You are LATINS (Latinos is only when writing in Spanish plural) because you have inherited the Linguistic and Cultural identity of the Romans: Speak a Latin Language, Spanish, have adopted Roman Laws, have a Latin Culture and are Roman Catholics. This is what makes you and the other Latin Europeans Latins: Italians, French, Romanians , Portuguese with you the Spaniards LATINS. This should be taught in schools but it isn't done and it's a shame. You say that you feel a friendship with the people of Latin America and you mention why. Listen to me, this is not reciprocated by them. In fact those people from Latin America have ancient grudges against you even today for supposedly atrocities committed by your ancestor 500 years ago. Actually they hate all the Whites and constantly tell us to "Go Back To Europe". Go on YouTube and type "Go Back To Europe" and you see all these Mestizo saying all kinds of ugly words against all of us Whites. Also on YouTube write "No Hispanic and No Latino" and you'll see what these people say. As for the wrong Label of "Hispanic/Latino" It was a Mestizo man called Frank del Olmo (Google him) who years ago chose the term "Hispanic/Latino" instead of using their race or just "Latin Americans"to identity the "Ethnicity"!!! of all the people of Latin America. Being Latin/Latino/Latina doesn't have anything to do with the color of the skin or the race of a person. Latin/Latino is only about languages and culture. The language and culture of the Romans.

Latin has nothing to do with Skin Color or Race. Latin (Latino/a in Italian, Romanian, Portuguese and Spanish) only refers to language and culture. It's the same word only that in English there is no "o' and no a" at the end. You people from Latin America are Latin Americans and not Latinos. The Latinos live in Latin Europe. By the way everything Latin/Latino be it the Latin people, the Latin Language and the Latin Culture all comes from Italy and not from Spain and nothing to do with Latin America . The French named it Amerique Latine because the languages spoken there: French, Portuguese and Spanish, the languages of the colonizers, originate from the Latin language.

Are you Roman? Are You Italian? You're not a Latina. You're a "Latin American". You must identity yourself with your race like we all do. Latin/Latino/Latina refers only to Romance Languages and Roman Latin Culture and nothing else. You can only say that either that you are White/Mestiza/Black or whatever or that you're Mexican, Cuban...or as I said "Latin American. Spain is also Latin because they were colonized by the Romans and they speak Spanish which is a Latin language. Yes Mexicans could say Mexicans, the Cubans could say Cubans or just Latin Americans or if they have to identify their race they will have to figure out which race or mixing of races they want to identify it but Latino is not their race not is their ethnicity. Russell Richards The Romans were a separate group on their own and the Latins were another group with their own administrations. They both lived in the same area then known as Latium and now known as Lazio in central Italy. The Romans took over the Latins and adopted their Latin Language (Lingua Latina) and culture and eventually the Romans unified all of the groups living in Italy and spread the Latin language, Latin Culture and Roman Laws and later Christianity. Yes the Latins had a distinct DNA, although they were Caucasians) but we're talking about 2000 years ago and with so much mixing between the original people of Italy and all what happened in Italy and Europe since then it's impossible to locate a full bloodied Latin person in Italy. See, the Latin Culture is not what you think. The analogy you made between Veneto and Sicily is faulty when it comes to culture. The difference between the two regions is the "folklore" (Local festivals, etc.) and not the culture. The culture is the same thought Italy. The culture is determined by all Italians speaking a Latin-derived language, Italian, then having the same morals and belonging to the same religion, the Roman Catholic Church. Then as I said when writing or speaking in English (we are writing in English) it's grammatically incorrect to say "Latino". The correct term in English is "LATIN". Only when speaking in Italian, Romanian, Portuguese and Spanish the Latino/Latina is correct.

Russell Richards Latin is not a race. It was the ethnicity of the first Latin people who lived in their own mini country, in the region called Latium (today Lazio) in Italy but they were Caucasians. These Latins were incorporated by the next door more powerful Romans and then in Italy we had 2000 years of ethnic mixing with the rest of the other groups living in Italy. Then if you consider the mixing that took place during the past 2000 years it's difficult to identify the first Latin genes. Therefore we consider as being Latins as a linguistic and cultural heritage and not ethnic because the languages that we speak come from their Latin language and our culture is the culture that we got from them. Then of course the Romans went out of Italy to colonize and they colonized most of Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East and spread their Latin language, Latin Culture and Romans Laws.
