When speaking or writing in English it's incorrect to say "Latino/Latina" in English language it's "Latin" whether masculine or feminine. in English you would say "I'm Latin" , NOT "I'm Latino, I'm Latina". It doesn't belong to you because it's the heritage of the Italians and of the Latin Europeans? Latino/Latin has a 3000 year old Roman definition. You here in Latin America have no right to change its definition. You are Indians from what the Latin European colonizers, French, Portuguese and Spaniards, called "Latin America" and the reason why they called it "Latin" America is because their languages, French, Portuguese and Spanish, derive from the Latin. Eric Jones I already answered some of your questions in another post. The problem with the Latin Americans is that they consider their Dark Skin Color as being Latin. They think that to be Latin you have to be dark or Mestizo looking and that Latin is their Ethnicity as the U.S. Census Bureau lists.
Latin (Latino is incorrect in English) it's only about speaking Latin Languages and possessing Roman Latin Culture. People from Latin America keep saying " I'm Latin or in Spanish "Soy Latino, Soy Latina". This is wrong because we don't use "LATIN" as a personal identification. We use Latin only on occasions when we have to identify our culture. The right way would be I'm White, I'm Mixed Race, "I"m Indigenous..."I'm Mexican", I'm Cuban", "I'm Honduran" or "I'm Latin American" but NOT Latin, not Latino, not Latina and certainly not Latinx. Now if any of you feels that he/she has a Latin culture (The Latin Culture is the culture spread by the Romans) then he/she can say "I'm culturally Latin" or in Spanish " Tengo cultura Latina" but only then and not like all of you do. In fact the Italians and the Latin Europeans seldom use the term Latin unless they have to identify their culture..

You have to blame Mexican Chicano Frank del Olmo who created this mess years ago. Frank del Olmo wanted to unite all the Spanish-speaking people of the Americas under one label but he chose the wrong "LATINO" label instead of choosing a Race for the Latin Americans or just say "Latin American/s".
Latino is wrong in English you don't say Latino you say LATIN and wrong because Latin only refers to Languages and culture and has nothing to do with Race or Ethnicity. First of all is grammatically incorrect to say "Latino" when writing or talking in English. In English language it's "LATIN" whether masculine or feminine. Second, unless you are Italian, French, Romanian, Portuguese and Spaniards you are not a Latin person. Being Latin (Latino in Italian,Spanish, Romanian and Portuguese) you are not a Latin person because in the 200 years since the Latin European colonizers, French, Portuguese and Spaniards, left what they called "Latin America" the present inhabitants have invented their own culture which is not the same as the Roman Latin culture.

I'm not talking about the Spanish language. My argument is about the twisting of the meaning of the term Latin/Latino/Latina. You are Latin Americans. This is what the French called that part of the Americas so you are Latin Americans and Latin Americans cannot be shortened into Latino/Latina . Latin/Latino/Latina already have a Roman meaning going back 2000 years and only refers to Roman Latin languages and Roman Latin Culture. Nothing to do with your Skin Color, nothing to do with your Blood. Most of you think that Latin/Latino/Latina is your Race or your Dark Skin Color and this is not true and there is no Latin Food, there is no Latin Music. It's all your invention. You have to do like we all do using your Race/Races to identify yourselves or choose your country of origin like Mexican, Cuban...or Latin American/s but not Latino. Latin/Latino/Latina can ONLY be used when identifying ones culture and never as a personal identification but this is exactly what you do. Even the Latin European: Italians, French, Romanians, Portuguese and Spaniards don't use the Latin label very often except when they have to identify their culture otherwise they say: Italians, French, Romanians, Portuguese and Spaniards or just Europeans. The fact is that most of you have no idea of what Latin is and where this great culture comes from and what "Latin" America means and who and why was named "Latin" America (Amerique Latine). I know that the person who made this mess , Mexican Chicano Frank del Olmo, didn't know anything about the Romans and their Latin Language and culture which they imposed upon those that they colonized in Europe and when the Latin European colonizers , French, Portuguese and Spaniards,came to what is now known as the Americas they imposed their Latin upon the local indigenous population. My objection is that first in correct English is not Latino and not Latina. In correct English is LATIN singular and LATINS plural masculine and feminine and secondly Spanish-speaking people of the Americas must learn what it means to be a Latin and must call themselves by their Race/Races,, by their Countries or say Latin Americans and not Latino/Latina and now the latest gimmick Latinx. You or some of you can identify as Latins but ONLY in certain situations. I hope that i clarified the issue. No, I have nothing against you speaking Spanish. The Romans were all Italian and Latin before they started colonialism and went out of Italy towards the rest of Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East. I did not like this Bob Unanue introducing the Spanish-speaking people of the Americas as the "Latino Community". These Spanish-speaking people of the Americas must stop using the Roman term "Latin" and manipulating its meaning to identify themselves. The Romans yes started out of an area of central Italy but they took over all the people that you mention, all European people, living in Italy. The Bronx used to be very safe, crime free when Whites: Irish, Italians, Germans, Dutch and Jewish people lived there up to the 1960's when the Jungle arrived, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, and Blacks, after the 1964 Civil Rights Act was passed and the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act passed and crime, welfare dependency, noise and blight pushed Whites out of the Bronx. They just left everything behind and ran away. Somebody has to say it. The same happened all over the City of New York and in major Northern Cities.

You are not Latinos. Latinos means Latins same word except that in Italian, Romanian, Portuguese and Spanish is Latino/Latina but not in English). In English is LATIN. You are not Latins. You are indigenous people who only originate from what the Latin European colonizers, French, Portuguese and Spaniards, called "LATIN" America. The reason why is was called "LATIN" America, not because of your Skin Color, not at all. It was called "LATIN" America because the languages of the colonizers, French, Portuguese and Spaniards, derive from the Latin language of the Romans. You have to use your race/races to identify yourselves like we all do and these are the races: White, Black, Asian and Red-Skin Indian. And there is no Latin Music, there is no Latin Food, there is no Latin Dance. It's all your invention. And there is no such a thing as Afro-Latino because the two don't mix. Afro refers to Race and Latino only refers to Latin Languages and Latin Culture. Wake up and learn:

Yes, but if the term Mestizo is not to your liking and I may agree with it then it's up to each one of you from Latin America to choose an identity as long as Race is still a factor in identifying people. In the future Race may not be important and not easy to figure out due to the many racial mixing also for not dividing people. This is why when people originally from Latin America use the Latin/Latino/Latina label they are confusing the issue because we all identify ourselves by using either our Race or the countries we come from or we use our continent. As for Latin Europeans : Italians, French, Romanians, Portuguese and Spaniards they never use the Latin label as an identification because Latin is not their Race. Latin is only their linguistic and cultural heritage. However, if they happen to be in a conversation when they have to identify their culture then they say they're Latins but only then. In the Americas you use Latin/Latino/Latina to identify your Skin Color, to identify your DNA, to identify your Blood, to identify your Food, to identify your Music and this amounts to twisting Roman history. Latin is none of that. Latin/Latino/Latina is the language spoken by the Romans and their Latin Culture and cannot be changed no matter how much Mexican Frank del Olmo preferred "Latino" instead of "Latin Americans/s" in identifying the Spanish-speaking people of the Americas. He made a big mistake. You have to use a Race and for many of you can be different from the others depending on the Racial Mixing or you have to say Mexican, Cuba, Honduran, Puerto Rican... or you can say "Latin American/s". This is the way it is. Italians own the Latin, language and culture. It's our Roman Heritage.
