  1. It's not even about saving others. That wasn't the point of what the Joker was doing either. This is...well essentially game theory. The best overall option is for everyone to survive, but that means risking/believing that everyone else will take the exact same option. Usually people do not take this option, but the "safe" option where either only they gain ( even if it's less than what they could get) or actually everone loses. It's not hard to see how everyone should just not turn the key. But being the one, who regardless of whom might have the detonator on th other boats IS hard. And while the others didn't use the detonator out of being afraid of blowing others up, the huge ass man who states he can kill people thows the detonator out because he adhered to his principles. He ain't no snitch.
