All of this is based on personal subjectivity. Japan was bombed because the US had nukes, was in war with Japan and due to the sneak attack on Pearl Harbour and it's media coverage it became acceptable to drop the nukes. That's it. Your Grandma did not hate the US, because she associated the bombs with war and she couldn't associate the war and for her war was more like a natural disaster than something man-made. And the soldiers on the street could be nice they could be also horrible. Your luck on which ones you get. And Japan got aid, because it benefited the US, not because they were nice. Also it's worth noting that the bullet in the chamber does not care for the feelings against your target. Nation aren't using nukes because it's a horrible weapon, but because fear of M.A.D. I think it's actually reasonable to burn a city of 10.000.000 if the result is that one less soldier dies on my side, simply because I have to duty or responsibility for the 10M while I do for that single one. (Assuming I was invested with such responsibility) I also feel that it would do a great direspect to my ancestors if I deny their actions. I'm where I am and my culture still exists because my ancestors put arrows into a LOT of people, it is what it is.
