What I think is that any group that has a goal/function honors/rewards/appreciates it's members based on that function. For scientific institutions? You gain titles and respect. For a religious order? That would be titles, positions, a cool hat. For military it's honours and medals. For a capitalist, for profit company? That's money. Your family is there to be your family. Your company could be a really nice place that you actually feel connected to. But that's not it's primary function and if they try this angle, that is a red flag. So yeah, I agree.
