Julia the U K was very different in 1953 because the Monarchy was held in very high esteem having demonstrated its leadership qualities throughout the 1939 to 1945 conflict . It was recognised that Buckingham Palace was bombed and that both Princess Elizabeth and her husband had contributed to the War effort.

@darlahenri8095 The Monarchy is not elected and Charles is the rightful King .I do not think it right to speculate about a Coronation for William and Catherine at this point since they have young children and are relatively inexperienced.

@SuperStella1111 I can assure you that the anti monarcist movement was virtually non existent in the 1950's and that if there had been any complaints about the cost they would have been reported .I very much regret the the dreadful behaviour that we have witnessed in the run up to the Coronation and I think the Police did extremely well to identify and arrest those who do not know how to express legitimate views in a sensible manner ; I acknowledge some mistakes were made.
