Garnet it is normal for Royal engagements to be planned months before they are due to happen. I believe Catherine had symptoms she was uncomfortable with and consulted a Doctor. After performing the usual tests and scans the Doctor decided surgery was required and he made the necessary arrangements while Kensington Palace cancelled the engagements for a three month period .All seems sensible to me and at least Catherine got to spend her birthday at home .
