@bumble 2000 excellent questions and one does wonder why those who attended the parties ( 17 of them at Number 10 ) did not ask them.

Actually democracy requires standards to be maintained. Every complaint or potential offence needs to be investigated thoroughly.

@Eleventhearlofmars It is an extremely serious matter to accuse a former Prime Minister of lying to his colleagues and the opposition in the House of Commons .The members of the Committee were extremely thorough and careful because they knew B J would greet their findings with bluff and bluster .Because of the time taken and the presentation of the evidence the majority of Conservative MP's had no real alternative but to vote to accept the findings. I do not know why B J was not asked to pay his own legal costs but I assume it is the custom of the House of Commons. All I can say is that this really upsets me as a U K taxpayer .
