  1. American here and I grew up the same way. My mom would always tell me, "If you go out, you'll be kidnapped!" I keep telling her I'm a ghost in public. No one notices me. "No, you can't hang out with that kid from your school because he's a BOY!" Yes, my naivety thought I could be friends with a guy without a sexual relationship, but my mom saw it differently because of me being a teenager.

  2. It's not only the inability to walk everywhere, but also the drivers. I'd be scared shitless if I had a kid walk to school on a busy road. I used to live in a town that had sidewalks to walk to school because it was designed that way and it was a small, upscale town in MA.
