  2. ​@rheeryder2524 I won't beat you up on your response, but think about the statement logically. If you are given everything why would you work for anything yourself? You would be stupid if you did. It is nice to try to help people, especially those that really need help. But it is a very short step to enabling them. You can't just throw money at a problem and expect it to be fixed.

When I am hiking or camping if I see trash I pick it up. I don't just stand there stomping my feet complaining how the government doesn't pick up trash.

  9. There is this thing called the passage of time. This might be a little hard for you to understand but things do change. At one time this guy lived in London. He was born in India. He lives on a nicer area of DC today. So maybe he lived in a few more places in-between? Maybe he slept under a bridge down by the river a few nights? Maybe he lived in Hawaii with a roommate for a month or two? So did you discover a lie or maybe you have what Joe Biden has?

But we had an argument so I moved out and slept on Becky's couch for a week. Then I got lucky at the horse races and managed to swing rent at this luxery duplex for a couple months.   26. And yet every single article of succession from every single state that succeeded lists slavery as the cause of succession? Listen, there were a lot of economic and states rights issues involved. But to say slavery was not the root cause of the war is disingenuous and frankly ignorant.

  27. @coz2j69  first off you are talking about two different things here. Owning another human being as property is not the same as having a class of people with less rights. But the argument is a red herring anyway. Go read the articles of succession from any and every state in the confederacy. The right to hold slaves is given as the leading cause fir secession.

Of course to understand slavery as the institution it was through the 18th and 19th century you have to have an understanding of how people of the time thought. You cannot understand it with the worldview you have today. You might think something like, "they were all racists!" And that is shocking. But yes, everyone was a racist during this period. Science of the day understood that some races of people were inferior to others. Italians, Irish, jews, chinese...they were all discriminated against. This in no way tries to defend slavery, an institution most of us now see as abhorrent and unjust. But you have to have half a clue what the world was like then. All that aside, the fact remains that the war between the states was primarily over the question of slavery and the economic dependence on those slaves.
