@dontnonowuno9953 feral dogs and cats are actually more of a issue cause they are more wide spread. cats have wiped out entire ecosystems and are considered one of the worst invasive species in entire world not just florida. these snakes are fairly localized to florida and don't even come close to the damage done by cats.since they have no recorded case of driving a species into extinction and just pose the possible danger to nesting bird populations. mean whiles cats have killed off 63 species(that we know of) and are a active threat to several endangered species.when cats move into area they pretty much kill off almost the entire small animal population. the only reason people don't talk about them is cause they are cute/pretty and common pets.cute/pretty invasive species are the most dangerous cause people try to protect them and defend them despite the harm they can cause. for example there are invasive flocks of parrots in florida that are hard has hell to eradicate cause people are trying to protect them. iguanas also get a hand from people cause people bring them inside during cold snaps to save them cause people think they look cute. and well people will die on the hill that is the outdoor cat.

@UrbanGardeningWithD.A.Hanks14 that will never happen cause of cat owners

@UrbanGardeningWithD.A.Hanks14 pythons aren't venomous and they aren't that dangerous to humans. also feral cat colonies are actually dangerous.especially to young children cause they are huge vectors for rabies.feral cats urine and feces also can make people sick.feral dogs are also extremely dangerous cause they'll hunt people.

@blackbette07 it is because they are a large snake.because when you compare them to other invasive species they really aren't that big of a issue since they are localized to the everglades and can't spread due to winter since they are cold blooded and tropical. meanwhile feral hogs can be found through out florida/the south can spread and being warm blooded can survive winter. cats are another massive issue since they are basically invasive every where in the US can spread and survive the winter.

you forgot trying to ban peoples pets after they've become a issue. which sounds good on paper till it causes mass panic and results in people releasing their pets even more cause they don't want their pets killed.

the issue is mercury pollution has made them inedible. we talk about these pythons but no one talks about what pollution is doing to the waterways.

@danielwatson4864 iguanas are more invasive cause people find them cute.so when people see them dying from the cold they "rescue" them and then release them. so what's inhabitable to a iguana is not to pythons.

@enjoyslearningandtravel7957 and what does that have to do with people bringing them inside during cold snaps?
1
because it's cute and common.also it's not being used to cover up other major environmental issues like pollution and habitat loss along with destruction of FL natural barrier to hurricanes. snakes and most tropical species are only a problem for FL

@ehfoiwehfowjedioheoih4829 how am I blind by saying pythons aren't the only invasive species in Florida and that people only care about them cause they are a snake. especially when people actively try to defend the other invasive cause they are pretty like the parrots or try to ban pythons in north states where it is literally impossible for them to become invasive. also pythons aren't the only reason mammal populations have declined and they aren't the biggest.habitat loss and pollution are way bigger factors.but that's a whole other can worms.
