To protect and serve is just a public relations slogan. The courts have ruled that the police are under no legal obligation to protect or serve.

Of course the police say that what happened before the video starts justifies everything they did. But who are you supposed to believe? The courts have ruled that it is perfectly acceptable for the police to lie to the general Public and ever since they're lying has escalated to the point that they lie every day, they lie in court under oath, they lie in their police reports and they back up each other's lies. You can't know what happened before the video started but you can know what happened from the time after the video started which doesn't seem to support what the police are saying.
