Then the new government led by Diefenbaker came into power they scrapped the program because of politics more than anything else. It was more expensive to cancel the program then it would have been to follow through with the minimum order they had agreed to. Not unlike the conservatives ordering the Cormorant helicopters with all the bells and whistles at a pretty discounted price. Then the Liberals came in and Jean Chretien canceled the deal at a pretty substantial financial penalty. Then a few years later made a new order for the Cormorant helicopters at an inflated price and no bills or whistles. Politicians being stupid screwing over the country because they think they can get some political gain out of it or hurt their political enemies.
