Namo Salto philippines have 1.5% mortality rate for those tested, compare that to 3% of indonesia's. nominal numbers should not be used due to distortions in classifications and social stigma. if you want to judge a country fairly, stick to the numbers and take opinion pieces with a grain of salt.

Namo Salto im not from the philippines and southeast asia generally agrees with the death penalty for drug traffickers, including singapore. we are more than one and a half year into the pandemic. if you cant tell there is no right or wrong conclusion to lockdowns, then there is something wrong with you. no incumbent is responsible for the current poverty or indiscipline of their citizens - you simply cannot blame a sitting president for both infections and the lockdown. fix your logic.

Namo Salto there are some things that you can blame the president for. inaction towards the pandemic, being soft on violations or an economic that shrinks *more than the world average*. as far as i can see, duterte isnt guilty on any of those. i feel 0 sympathy for drug traffickers - they all knew the risk of making money from narcotics. it's a high margin business where even street peddlers make 100% through markups and dilutions. neither philippines nor indonesia has the money for massive rehabilitation facilities or recidivism tolerance where the west spends $40,000-50,000/year for every inmate. go study business and learn how to compile a budget.

@harukrentz435 thats not true. several journalists covering mining and plantation corporations have died. one of them shot not far from his house. press freedom in indonesia is restricted to a certain extent. you need to take a look at duterte's favorability ratings even ones done by rappler and ask yourself why. if drug dens have been disappearing from people's neighborhoods, then his methods work like it or not. poor countries cannot adopt the expensive lengthy process of rich ones.

Namo Salto im an indonesian by birth, singaporean by citizenship and working in manila on a project for accenture. any more questions? i dont risk my life for quick gains and thats why i work 60-70 hours a week. oow it's also why i have the logic and critical thinking that you are sorely lacking. singapore also has the death penalty for drug peddlers and the decision is based on unbiased numbers. unlike the west, singapore constantly adapts and have no problems abandoning ideology for things that work.

Namo Salto the ph drug war is VERY effective. the corner near my apartment is walkable now when it used to be a cesspool of junkies and dealers - it's the reason he is popular, the changes are real and felt. you cant blame the lockdowns on duterte, every country has the same problem. i dont care if some street dealers die. if you want more rehab facilities here, then get your country to donate us$11 billion because thats how much it costs to rehabilitate 1.6 million people and you can thank duterte for reducing that number from 4 million.

Namo Salto poor countries could not afford the ways of the west. on top of the lack of funding for rehab facilities, developing countries pay their police, courts and correction officers far too little to stave off the temptations of corruption. it's the reason why the west pays $60,000 a year for these positions - a level that gives you a decent neighborhood decent healthcare decent education for your kids. what kind of house can you buy with $6000/year even in the philippines? use your brain the death squads work. a few thousand death has saved millions. get a proper education and learn to use a calculator.

@player1enjoyer i have explained corporal punishment to countless ignoramus. developing countries simply cannot afford tens of billion for rehab facilities and recidivism when the country's budget is only $90 billion. it's a simple funding problem. everyone would love to solve things using the western way: give secessionists $3000/person/year to abandon their cause, provide humane treatment of inmates at $40,000/inmate/year, pay police $60,000/officer/year to lessen corruption, education spending at $14,000/pupil/year, healthcare at $12,000/patient/year etc. with WHAT money??
