@hehehehehehe5801 you could only gain that kind of perspective by reading both sides of the story as i did. the brainwashed ones will always repeat cultural revolution tiananmen, wumao and even evergrande (a govt controlled event). china choose their battles, you can tell by their paltry incursions abroad and the few vetoes in un. if they play their cards right, their ascent to global economic hegemony is inevitable esp with a full-blown consumer economy. the real question on the back of everybody's mind today is: will the leaders of china then square accounts with the west and japan?

@hehehehehehe5801 nice conclusion on taiwanese reluctance to fight. 40% already voted for the pro-reunification party and their mandatory conscription has whittled to just 3 months few prosperous people of chinese-stock are willing to give up their lives for free speech. take hongkong, half a million left for canada before 97 for fear communism will drag the economy down to poverty level. today less than 90k took up britain's citizenship offer and out of that 1/4 are poised to return due to adaptation issues.

@fredtan1506 in politics, vengeance shores up political capital esp in times of turmoil and war tends to unify even oppositions (or risk being labelled traitors). you must remember although a one-party system has its efficiencies, only a bloody revolution can bring in change of power.

@jennychuang808 might still makes right these days. thats why superpowers continue to pour money into the military at the expense of social expenditures. mainland's taiwan take-over is inevitable, the ccp are just biding their time to minimise losses. this isnt 97 when half a million of hongkongers left out of fear their economy will be dragged down to poverty. the ccp has signalled that prosperity is here to stay. among the 5.4 million eligible for british citizenship recently, less than 90k took up the offer and 1/4 of those migrants will return due to adaptation problems. all this leads to one question: [how many taiwanese - who grew up with peace, prosperity and complacency - wants to give up their lives to fight china for freedom?? ] your compulsory military training has whittled down to merely 3 months and some 40% voted for kmt the reunification party. the us arent gonna stick around forever; taiwan is nothing but a proxy war and they compromised with the kmt junta way into the 90s. while china will keep knocking on taiwan's doors even if it takes another century. ponder that reality for a moment.

@jennychuang808 dirt-poor people view enlistment as a lifeline and career opportunity. my point is: seeking independence is pointless and your casualties will be far higher as a sitting duck. most importantly when it comes to a head-on, your people arent willing to fight. those mid to upper class who find life under ccp insufferable has the money to move abroad avoiding the refugee fate(e.g. afghan syria yemen).

@jennychuang808 @Jenny Chuang hahahah word games hahahahha. gdp win wars, not gdp per capita. good luck fighting mainlanders with trashtalk. if you truly lived in shanghai & beijing for 9 years, you would have realised one stark comparison with taiwan .... the latter 吃不了苦,受不了难。 have fun with the keyboard independence crusade.
