im curious. the western mainstream reported marcos sr as a dictator who fled to hawaii with trunks of valuables. what made the philippines ignore this history to re-elect his son?

@andthestorybegins5597 indonesia had soeharto. while that era was marked with prosperity, military methods were used to quell dissent and the corrupt govt took on increasing debt to build the country. indonesia was both corrupt and peaceful. is that the same under the marcos regime?

@andthestorybegins5597 i thought benigno won the presidency just before duterte's. i agree that elected officials with autocratic mandates get more things done but that have to come with a clean govt strict on corruption. thats what south korea taiwan and singapore shared under their iron fist leaders. im not trying to argue with you. im one of those few foreigners who saw duterte's work cleaning up the streets of manila. but u gotta worry abt his parent's corruption

@Phalerum no im talking about the trunks of valuables worth $7 million when they fled to hawaii and the national debt his govt left behind (abt 100% gdp). the 'where' isnt that important. it's very hard to find favorable articles abt marcos sr on google other than peaceful under an authoritarian regime. thats why im asking randoms on youtube abt the real story.
