  1.  @Favorite-catNip  you cant change a culture quickly without some form of authoritarianism. how would you incentivise a family to stop popping out 5 children when the whole country's budget has only $200 per year for every citizen?

  2. the solution might be a dictatorship. china and india were similar in gdp and population in 1990. then centralized planning by a stable government pulled china away to 5.5x india's gdp per capita in 30 short years. africa had 70 years of democracy since independence and nothing came out of it. maybe if we give them a chance to chart their own course, not every african country will share the same fate of zimbabwe. after all neither taiwan hongkong nor south korea had free elections until the 90s, and together with authoritarian singapore make up asia's independent success stories.
