  6. I grew up fearing the Soviet Union. There were often documentaries showing how many thousands of tanks were poised to sweep across Europe, and documentaries showing the power of their nuclear arsenal. We believed that Europe wouldn't stand a chance. On the other hand I always wondered in the back of my mind how a state with such a relatively small economy, and so backward in technology could be so powerful. I guess we believed that the Soviet System worked in some way. And now Ukraine is proving that this fear was unfounded. The emperor had no clothes, the Tiger was made of paper. Slava Ukraine.

  12. watching your blog and others like Operator Starsky and Denys Davidov makes me realise what my parents and grandparents went through in England during WW2. I'm only an observer of this war but I'm exhausted by it already. I can only imagine what it was like to go though 6 years of total war. I pray to God that this war is over soon... but people were always promising it would be over by Christmas. But in the spirit of Churchill, whatever it takes, whatever the cost, whatever the pain, Putin must be stopped, because if he is not stopped now he, or his like, will attack again. "Let party interest be ignored, let all our energies be harnessed, let the whole ability and forces of the nation be hurled into the struggle, and let all the strong horses be pulling on the collar." Churchill.

  32. The Catholic Church opposed Nazism, and the Vatican sheltered thousands of Jews. Thousands of priests were killed in Concentration camps for their opposition. At the end of the war the chief rabbi of Rome became Catholic because of his experience of the Church during the war, and the Pope was named Righteous Among the Nations by the state of Israel. The guy who wrote Hitler’s Pope later stated he was in error. Don’t believe everything you read.
