  11. It's quite possible that he did have a bike to give away, and was looking for somone to give ut to, but better safe than sorry, so the kid did the right thing.

Can you 100% prove, without absolute certainty, without a shadow of a doubt, that he didn't have a bike to give away? If so, what is that incontrovertible evidence? 2.
