It should belong to the natives living there.

why would the people of Greenland and Canada want to join the US? Or do you just not care about their opinion?

Greenland is not a member of the EU. Mining is more expensive in an area that is covered in ice most of the year, which is why Greenland still needs money from Denmark. Just because there are resources in the ground somewhere, doesn't mean that it is profitable to extract them.
3
there are similar resources in other parts of the world that are not covered in ice. Why do you think Greenland needs subsidies from Denmark?
2
that would be a great way to make several European allies switch sides, and join the growing list of anti-US countries. And for what, a big island that is covered in ice most of the year?

Greenland has the right to leave the Kingdom of Denmark and become an independent country. It was written into Danish law some time ago. So they remain a part of Denmark by choice.

wrong polar circle...

so the US should steal from other countries just because you can?

Greenland has been looking for oil for 50 years now, with help from companies like Chevron, Shell and Exxonmobil. But no luck yet.

that is not how mining works. The investments are made by companies, and it is up to the local government to grant permissions. The problem is that mining in arctic conditions is more expensive, and therefore less profitable. You can find the same kind of resources in other parts of the world, that are not covered in ice most of the year.

@stoneyyy19 even in the worst case scenario, it is still gonna take 1000 years before all the ice is melted. A more moderate estimate is around 10.000 years if the temperature continues to rise at the current level.

@mactek6033 there is nothing preventing US companies from investing in Greenland. The US and Greenland signed an agreement about it in 2019, and yet there is no mining boom today. Maybe you should learn a little about Greenland, before commenting about it?

the US arms industry is being outproduced by North Korea in artillery shells, by China in warships, by Russia in missiles, armored vehicles and many other key areas. You guys got nothing to brag about... Denmark ordered 27 F35s in 2015, only 11 have been delivered so far. Talk about slow production...

England could just go back to being a part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Then they could have the same rights as Greenland 😉
1
and then what? How is that going to benefit the US?
1
and why exactly do you want Greenland?
1
empty threats. We both know that is not going to happen...🙄
