  17. i have been thinking a lot about this lately. The real threat from russia is not a full scale invasion, but something much smaller. And right now i don't have much faith in NATO. I think a lot of NATO members would be hesitant to deploy their own soldiers to defend some remote border territory in another country. Another big problem is, without the US who would take the lead? I could easily imagine France, Germany and the UK spending months arguing about it instead of actually doing something. The only solution i can think of is some kind of EU force that is responsible for defending every inch of EU territory. Then it is not France sending French soldiers to the Baltics, but EU soldiers defending EU territory. This force doesn't have to replace all other armies, EU members could still have their own military.

  20. Germany's defence budget over the last 10 years is about the same size as russia's. The combined defence budget of the EU is larger than China's, the combined number of active personnel is around 1,4M, the same as the US.

But russia is just spending everything on fireworks. But I guess we will know eventually, because the war is not ending any time soon. Let's see how russia is doing by the end of 2025...

When the pipelines through Ukraine closes in few days, it will be down to roughly 5%. That is quite a drop from the 50% a few years ago. So how can you say that imports are at an all time high? And how would that even be possible, when half of the pipelines between russia and Europe have been closed for years?

Energy prices are slowly going back to normal, it will still take a few more years, but it is no longer a crisis. For russia, the loss of the European market is permanent. The sanctions are not going away for a very long time. And the war is not going to end any time soon.

  36.  @Aleks.Markov  Europe is not buying natural gas from India. That is a silly claim. But we are buying diesel from India, and much of that is refined from russian oil. The reason we are buying it from India, is because it is cheap. And it is cheap because russia has to sell the crude oil to India with a massive discount.

Denmark has some of the highest electricity prices in the world, and we are doing just fine. But even then, energy prices will return to normal eventually. It will happen one small step at the time, but it all adds up in the end. My country has just restarted a gas field that was shut down in 2019. It will produce around 4bcm per year, which is something like 1% of the EU's annual consumption. But another field will come online next year, and then it will be 2%. And then we have the increase in all the other sources of energy, such as wind, solar, biogas, hydro etc. It all adds up.

  41. I have never met anyone in the Danish army that believes the US would do all the fighting for us. Even 25 years ago, when i did military service, it was always clear that the country most likely to come to our aid was the UK, not the US.
