i have noticed a very annoying thing this year when it comes to analysts: They keep assuming everyone will keep doing the same. As an owner of a small manufacturing company, i can tell you that we don't just sit around and wait for the government to fix our problems. The business environment is always changing, and companies that can't adapt will be replaced by those who can. I have seen a lot of creative solutions to the energy crisis this year, like rooftop solar panels, huge batteries that can be charged at night when electricity is cheaper, or a local steel producer that is investing in a biogas plant to produce their own gas. It should also be mentioned that the majority of Germany's exports go to other EU countries, and the single market favors production inside the single market. There is too much focus on the big companies, when the real driver of German innovation is the small and medium sized companies.

i really don't like the idea of companies being too big to fail. If VW can't run a business, then they should fail. But there is also an issue of European security in a world that is entering a new age of conflict. So European industry should be protected to some extent, and we should avoid dependence on non-European countries for anything vital. We should expect all dependence to be used against us at some point in the near future.

enjoy the free education the rest of us paid for then.

there are 27 countries in the EU, it is not unthinkable that some would switch sides if it benefits them more.
17
that is not up to you, that is up to China.
15
@WPaKFamily you can't see how stupid it is to complain about high taxes, while your getting a very expensive education for free thanks to said taxes?
12
@WPaKFamily i grew up in a low income household. I would never have had the same opportunities in a country like the US. I benefited a lot from the Danish system when i was young. I don't mind paying it back now when i've done well for myself.

@counter-intelligence7902 it's hard to predict what will happen in the next few years. There will no doubt be many challenges, but there will also be opportunities. German industry will probably take a hit in the short term, but an actual collapse is very unlikely. A new era of protectionism could hurt many of the larger companies, but it could also benefit many of the smaller companies.

@danielwebb8402 i was mostly referring to the "analysts" that are often quoted in videos like this. They tend to look at recent data, and assume a recent trend will just continue without anyone doing anything to change it. The more official forecast for Germany is a lot more moderate, last time i looked it up it was 0.3% real growth this year and 1.7% growth next year. While it is not great, it is still pretty far from a collapse.

@Riannu-i8x i think the whole concept of development aid is obsolete. It should just be stopped. Europe should not rely on resources from any non-European country if possible.

@give_me_my_nick_back Norway is very expensive, even compared to Denmark. But the average wages there are also higher, so the Norwegians can better afford it.
4
yeah the wet cold sucks 🙂
3
@Riannu-i8x i could not care less about the global south. I don't care if they are doing good or bad.
2
that is a good question. Could be that larger countries tend to have more regions with low income, which will drag the average down?
2
Amazon is absolutely a problem, at least here in Europe.
2
@petersouthernboy6327 Europe is a continent, not a country.
2
so you're saying that russia is a US vassal?
1
brics is just a forum, it doesn't actually do anything.
1
No, we do not NEED China. Both sides will be worse off in a trade war between China and the EU, but neither side is going to collapse. Any supplier can be replaced, it just takes time.
1
and why would we continue to be puppets, if it no longer benefits us?
1
@oceanwave4502 then don't. Nobody cares about the global south.
1
@oceanwave4502 then don't. Nobody cares.
1
@seneca983 yeah i don't agree with that description either. Must be a part of the country I haven't visited yet.
1
how can they thrive if they allow China to destroy all industry and development in their country?
1
i don't really care about the free market, i care more about not being dependent on authoritarian states like China.
1
i have had the same thought when i heard about Trump's tariff plans. Some European countries will probably start shifting towards the east instead, maybe even join Brics.
1
@ArawnOfAnnwn the EU is made up of 27 individual countries. Some might leave and make their own deals if they think it will benefit them more.
1
@petersouthernboy6327 the UK wanted a trade deal before leaving, plus the issue with the Good Friday agreement in Ireland. Leaving the EU is quite easy if you don't care about that.
1
@petersouthernboy6327 i have no desire to join Brics, and i seriously doubt that my country would do that. But there are some in southern and eastern Europe that might go for it.
1
@francisquebachmann7375 guess you failed geography in school then...
1
will it still be funny when former US allies shift towards China instead?
