relying on russian gas was always a bad idea. But at least that is over now, russia will never be a major energy supplier to Europe again.

@Veritas419 US invoking article 5 is the reason why we all got involved in Afghanistan. That war had absolutely nothing to do with us, but 10.000 Danes served in Afghanistan because the US asked for help.

there are no sanctions on natural gas. It was russia's choice to cut the flow to Germany, remember?

@vasili-jy8yb Norway is now Europe's main energy supplier, supplying 50% of Germany's gas in 2023. They have 3 pipelines to Germany already. EU used to buy refined oil from russia, but now russia has to sell the crude oil to India with a large discount, and Europe is then buying the refined oil from India at normal market price. It is a win-win for India and Europe, but not for russia.

It would be great if we could live in peace with russia. But that is impossible when russia wants to dominate their neighbors.

@omachiimmanuel3123 yeah, russian LNG accounted for around 7% of EU gas imports in 2023. But that will only fall in 2024...

the US is not reducing current supply, but they will not give new permits for LNG export at the moment. It is not really a big problem for Europe, since there is no shortage right now.

Europe has cut back on defence spending for decades. And russia is now taking advantage of that. Guess the lesson here is that you need to be prepared for war if you want peace.

@Thinkaboutit56789 russia is not getting full price for the oil, they have to sell it to third parties with a discount. But that will be replaced too, as other oil producers like the US, Canada and Norway increase production.

@kampayod the EU gives smaller countries veto rights, and makes it much harder for the larger countries to push them around. Something russia would never agree with. You are also missing the fact that nordstream 1 and 2 was built despite the US best attempt to stop it. How does that fit with your fake narrative about Germany being controlled by the US?
