as someone who works in manufacturing, i have always hated globalism. Most people don't seem to realize how much innovation is made on the production floor. So when large companies move production to the east, we are not just losing jobs, we are also losing knowhow and and ability to create better products.

@newtubevector Denmark was doing just fine before China joined WTO in 2001. The Danish welfare state has really only been degrading since then.

@AaronVanWolfen maersk can barely be considered a Danish company anymore. Multinational corporations like maersk is another thing i hate about globalism. They destroy local competition, and pay very little tax. Maersk often manage to pay less than 1% of their profit in tax. The Danish welfare state was just fine before China joined WTO in 2001. And it has actually been degradering since then.

@conconmc you think we don't know how to make a computer in Europe? Really?

globalism can only work if everyone is playing by the same rules. And that will never happen, trying to screw each other over is human nature.

@sonneh86 modern manufacturing is automated. I spent most of my workday in front of a computer, in fact i am working right now. The rest of my time is spent on maintenance and repair of the machinery. Denmark is a part of the EU's single market, and i am a big fan of that. When i say "we", I mean the EU.

@santostv. this is a common misunderstanding, so let me explain: Yes, we have a shortage of workers, but it is skilled workers that we need. We get plenty of applications from people who want to work, but they don't have the skills. Unskilled workers are pretty useless in this trade, no matter how cheap they are. Modern manufacturing is automated, and you can't just hire a random guy to program and maintain machinery that costs more than a house. It takes 4,5 years to become an industrial technician here in Denmark.
