ALT salaries in Japan haven't increased much if any in the last 7-8 years. The avg ALT english teacher makes about 200-210k a month. Some provide apt money but many don't. I was going to move to Japan to work and find a relationship partner, but choosing Thailand as it seems like a better option. I love Japan immensely but sadly can't afford to live there/get married on that salary

One big reason for the low birthrate is the lack of daycare for babies. New parents book daycare places even before the baby is born, up to a year or so before having a baby. More and more women in Japan just don't want to get married now too. You also have many single mothers, papakatsu etc.
