Well many women choose to be single due to finding a boyfriend a hindrance. This isn't the same for every woman though. I have Japanese female friends that stay single by choice.

Some women choose to be single though. Japan has a huge rental gf/rental bf culture. I know a few girls that work as rental gfs because they find relationships annoying. Many guys vegetable guys also find relationships with real women annoying..hence why many prefer to date digital girls NDS...PS..mobile dating games Japan also has many single mothers * there are popular single mother magazines in Japan*, again..some are single mothers by choice..some not by choice.

@samuraijosh1595 I lived in Japan, so my knowledge doesn't come from Western media, it comes from talking to Japanese friends, some of whom have rented a bf or gf. There are plenty of youtubers that show common/normal things about Japan and get the views.

during christmas day in japan, many people get together for one night stands...so hotels are usually very booked during this time. I don't think many relationships form out of this.
