  1. Child daycare centers are sparse in big cities and parents have to schedule enrollment well before the baby is even born. It's that bad. I'm very surprised why Japan hasn't increased the number of daycare centers and kindergartens in the bigger cities. This is one big reason why fewer babies are being born in Japan. Costs are also another. However, some areas katsushika/shibamata in east Tokyo for example reduce the cost of raising a child up to a certain age range. My area in shibamata had many new parents and young mothers when I lived there 7yrs ago because of this.
