Putin is not a good guy but he has been the honest one regarding this war. I have read every one of his speeches from the start, he has constantly given NATO and Ukraine a mechanism to end the war even before it began but they refuse.

The Ukrain military is horribly outmatched and they have failed every offensive they have tried. Their only successes like attacking the black sea fleet are only because of NATO.
