This Honda 'Chimney' Engine reminds one of versions of RCV Rotary Valve and Sleeve-Valve motors, see: 'RCV Engine: Technical Analysis and Real World Benefits', a concept quite close to the hundred years old Piccard-Pictet patent, CH79237. There is a recent SAE publication, pointing Schnuerle, Loop Scavenging, is better under any circumstance than Uniflow Scavenging. But I'd say this Honda Chimney is not exactly an UniIflow Scavenging. (Huskvarna published a SAE Technical Paper about a coating for a chainsaw engine) if the avantage of Loop Scavenging keeps true in very unusual engines is perhaps to be experimentally determined, but prototyping takes time and money, scarce resources.
