As a tourist, having visited USA regularly, ofcourse you arrive at a I'nal airport, SF, LA, Denver, Portland, but then you get out of the ugly space of big cities as quick as you can. The beautiful part of the USA is outside of the American big cities, I call it Indian country, using "Indian" not as a derogatory term and well aware of native people's tribal diversity. I feel that also many, but not all, of the Americans I met in "Indian country" loved their freedom and often were treating it with the utmost respect. I have lived in Eugene, Oregon for half a year and it not "big city", pedestrian paths everywhere, many bikelanes. An almost European quality to that city. In smaller cities of the mountain states an urban ugliness can be seen. Hardly a center, the suburbs squared up, some lot's occupied by some company or some industry, some lot's in between empty. Obvious is the total lack of respect of the lot owner for how their lot appears. No maintenance, no greenery, no flowers, none of the original ecosystem that was replaced by concrete slabs.
A great topic, well told and well observed. I cherish your positive vibe towards the end.
