  1. I am not sure, if the European civilians will challenge their governments. About a year ago, Dutch PM Rutte said that the Netherlands, I think he actually said "we", are at war with Russia. It remained dead silent from the Dutch population. No dissent whatsoever. Have we beome people that cannot think for themselves anymore and independently look at a situation from all insights available. Maybe, "we" just want to follow? Fortunately, as the conflict continues long enough, more and more sensible discusion occurs, but at this moment, it is still very low level.

  2. They rely too much on "article 5". They don't realize they are not strategically important to the USA. Article 5 is not very committal, as well. I may understand their anti-Russian stance, but they could be smart about that, instead of overtly provocative. The geography won't change. They will be neighbours for many years to come. They shouldn't feel protected by "article 5".
