  3.  @svr5423  presently they are still occupied by the USA, which explains the giant influence of the USA on German political decisions. After 1990 Germany could develop a healthy East-west policy with the Russians. Entire Europe benefitted from abundant and cheap Russian gas. The USA hated it, and destroyed the relationship. It is the USA, that Europe has to defend against.
