I kept on joining things I believe in - LWV, U U church, 5 book groups, a poetry group, reached out to the children of my parents (who were excellent friends). . .finally am meeting people who truly reciprocate. Hang in there, but DO NOT just stick with the folks who will not.

  5. Today on NPR was a story of a woman with stage 4 thyroid cancer. She let everyone she knew know she needed them to SHOW her love. She was deluged with visits, phone calls, food, letters. She asked!

  6. Join stuff! Anything! Volunteer at an animal rescue. Find as many book clubs as you can. Find a church you might like? Then reach out to DO things together. You will find your peeps - even if some are 90 years old!

  7. My dear dad was a lifelong learner & great at community & friendship. He was healthy until 102 1/2 yrs if age. He was not mobile the last 5 yrs, but his friends came to visit & his care-givers thought he should give lessons in being a true gentleman. He had been in the military & he was born in 1920. Community mattered. I heard his final phone call with his best friend. They talked abt what wonderful lives they had had. They both said, "I love you!"

  12. Yessss - a live-n-let-live democracy IS an anomoly!!! I was an international flt att't for 49 yrs. Most places do not have such an ability, such support to pursue being content. (I do not any longer like the way the word happiness is used by Americans.)

The young people would meet friends, understand the joy of giving, understand something new about our country, & (ohbytheway) HELP THE U S ! A complete WIN! I agreed with Barry Goldwater on supporting folks who have 2 children (reproduce ourselves), but it wd b their choice to continue to 3rd & nothing of gov't support. I also agree with having mental health pros ride with police. I agree that nuclear energy is a great transition source. I agree that having gov't impose words ("they") on us is silly, useless. I agree that California has made ridiculous decisions. I also strongly desire we build tiny houses, in clusters (done in N. O & Utah) to solve homekess situation. So I am one who acknowledges other side. And, I must add, the only time a far right person agrees with my take is by saying, "Yes, Trump is an odious human being, but I like his policies." They do not concede on other points. In fact when I bring up Dem ideas tht are acceptable, they deny the situation (the immigration bill agreed on then T sabotaged it) or take the credit! Also my left- wing political group reached out (twice) to a Republican group for discussion & they said, "No." I could go on.

  21. Or service - teaching kids to read, helping at animal shelter, political action, Habitat,vetc., etc. can all be wonderful experiences with good people.

  28. I am 75 yrs old. I would not have learned much if I had not washed & dried dishes with my mom every evening. We chatted so very much. She gave wise, calm, thoughtful advice.
