  1. It seems we're screwed either way. The problem with regulating AI is it could allow the government to get way ahead of the people in developing this technology. Imagine it would be to know the government was developing this tech for decades after it was banned in the private sector. You'd have no idea what kind of godly acts they were capable of it. It would lead to, at best, mass paranoia.

  2. The scariest thing about AI to me is its potential to censor ideas. Youtube's algorithims are already amazingly good at censoring certain types of messages that I can't type here if I want my comment to go through. Human moderators can always censor opinions, but not without people realizing its happening. AI can do it invisibly and instantaneously, and that kind of invisible censorship is 100X more dangerous.
