Like almost every other character? The last 6 Disney leads have been Mirabel, Moana, Mei, Raya, Mulan, and Jasmine.

The problem with that solution is that everybody wins, and to the left life is zero-sum.

I remember the national outrage when Gods Of Egypt presented an all white cast.

@Shined0wn0912 If Ariel's skin color doesn't effect the story, how does any character's skin color effect the story? The story takes place in 19th century Cophenhagen. That's like the most racially conscious society you could imagine. It would make more sense of have Raya or Aladdin or Moana be white.

Liberals really should declare a national holiday to celebrate Youtube's "anti-spam" filter. I can't count how many times I've tried to post statistics they destroy their arguments and got my comments blocked. It's frightening how good the algorithim has become at censoring certain facts.
2
@trouvaillx4826 And Mauri is a demigod. What's your point?
2
@Shined0wn0912 I've heard people say the opposite, that she was always white with red hair. Most likely she was green underwater, ginger above water.
2
@Marchking45 Again, I've heard otherwise, that her hair was described as "fiery red" in the book. Regardless, they were trying to copy the appearance of the original Disney Ariel, as evidenced by the fact Halley's hair is red. So the only way you can explain this casting is racial spite. Tiana wasn't black in the fairytale "The Princess and the Frog" was based on but that doesn't change the fact no one would want her race swapped because they grew up with the Disney version.
2
Every time that happens people have an aneurysm and the actor/actress ends up being forced to stop down. Also why is race not important in the story. It's a Danish fairytale, takes place in Denmark, and Ariel is supposed to be able to blend in with the local human society.
2
So is Mulan, Aladdin, Moana, Tiana, etc.
2
6 of the last Disney Princesses have been POCs. Mulan, Mei, Mirabel, Moana, Jasmine, and Raya.
2
Why does keeping her hair color matter, but not her skin color.
2
@Marchking45 The progressives certainly do.
1
@Marchking45 Okay, when was Moana's race established? Mulan's? You assume race based on common sense.
1
Her hair color matters, so why not her skin color? The only way you can explain the casting choice is racial spite.
1
@Marchking45 Funny that only happens with white characters. No white person's acting and musical talent got them into Aladdin.
1
Cleopatra was Greek. Ariel's hair color matters, why doesn't her skin color?
1
Rep. Matthews saying to treat white people like "children" and "sh*t" = controversial People saying they want Ariel's skin to be as authentic as her hair = racist

@Marchking45 Uh yeah lots of people were.
1
@Marchking45 Your mom is wrong.
1
If they didn't think of keeping the original appearance, why is her hair still red? This isn't supposed to be a fresh and new take on Ariel, it's just "Let's get rid of the white person and keep everything else the same"
1
What they mean is they think skin color doesn't matter any more than hair color. But guess what color they dyed Halley's hair for this movie?
1
If a white kid said this, even despite the fact that last six Disney leads have been POCs (Mei, Mirabel, Raya, Mulan, Jasmine, and Moana), the left would be using those videos to push CRT.

@jtwurth6216 People like you really need to get down on your knees and thank God for Google's so called "spam filter", it keeps blocking my attempts to post statistics on media representation that destroy your argument.

@redlight5256 Yes it is. Danish culture. And how is The Princess and the Frog connected to "black culture"? The movie celebrates New Orleans culture, things like jazz, which were embrace equally by blacks and whites.
1
To spite white people.
1
@Shined0wn0912 I don't like when the culture communicates that its okay to spite white people for being born white.
1
We didn't need to be upset because there were already powerful voices in the media who weren't afraid to criticize those depictions. When I saw Gods Of Egypt with an all white cast I knew the movie would suck.
1
@jtwurth6216 Jesus Christ is portrayed as a yellow man in China. Does that justify black-washing Mulan? Also Jesus is portrayed based on an easy to recognize archetype, based on Leonardo Da Vinci's last supper. He's not just white. He has a full beard, long brown hair, and robes. In fact skin color is the most mutable part of his depiction. It's about people being able to recognize who he is on sight. Guess what? The real Buddha was a skinny brown man form India. But what image do you see when you got to Asian restaurants?
1
@lqyaaa The Little Mermaid takes places in Copenhagen in the 19th century. It revolves around her decision to marry a local prince and assimilate with human society. How can you say race doesn't matter in 19th century Europe? If there's one place race does matter, that's it.
1
No its because she's black. I think Halley's beautiful, but maybe not on the inside after taking this role.
1
Over the last five years "white washing" has faced tremendous backlash, while blackwashing continues to grow. You always make the same argument "You did it, we condemend you for it, you stopped doing it, and now its okay if we do it." Jesus is portrayed as a yellow man in China. Go blackwash Mulan and I'll take your argument seriously.
1
Representation just means less white people. 2 of the last 6 Disney Princesses have been ethnically Chinese, but if Disney cast Ariel as a yellow woman the left would still be rejoicing.
1
Did you miss the uproar against Gods of Egypt?
1
@Marchking45 We didn't need to care because there were already plenty of people with power and influence in Hollywood who could criticize those choices without being labelled racist. And they did just that, and the actors ended up stepping down and delivering groveling apologies in basically every case in the last 5 years.
