Comments by "Dennis" (@Dennis-nc3vw) on "How movies teach manhood | Colin Stokes" video.
Where as this guy's fictional representation of reality only has male villains. You should look up the word "Made to Penetrate." I guess it's all those heroic female characters who are turning women into sexual predators.
5
"We need to teach our sons a new definition of manhood..." Goes on to give a picture perfect description of old fashion chivalry that has dominated Western literary canon since the dawn of history.
5
@geminibaby47 "A real man is someone who trusts his sisters and respects them, and wants to be on their team and stands up against the real bad guys, who are the men who abuse the women " Doesn't sound very gender-neutral to me.
4
He never said we should work together, he said we should raise boys on a picture perfect description of old school chivalry (a man's role is to protect the damsels from the bad men) and call it 'a new definition of manhood.'
3
You: "The only message I got from this speech is that both genders should be raised to value coorperation, knowledge, and leadership triats while striving to help empower others. How did this devolve to women stealing men's power, or men being lesser beings?" Him: "A real man is someone who trusts his sisters and respects them, and wants to be on their team and stands up against the real bad guys, who are the men who abuse the women "
3
Mulan is about a woman protecting a man (her sickly father who can't fight), which is the polar opposite of what he said we should teach.
2
@geminibaby47 In other words, men need to teach their sons with old school notions of chivalry, which has dominated Western literary cannon since the dawn of history, and call it 'a new definition of manhood.'
2
This video is just telling us to teach boys old school chivalry and call it "a new definition of manhood."
2
@dulanyacooray2329 Ugh, do you have a single fact to back that up? Both domestic violence and sexual assault are bi-directional. Maybe you should look up the words "made to penetrate."
2
@veronicaproctor184 In other words, chivalry. How about no? My body, my choice.
2
THANK YOU! It fucking baffles me no one else noticed this. That "new definition of manhood" has dominated Western literary canon from The Rape of Lucretia to The Birth of a Nation.
2
"A real man is someone who trusts his sisters and respects them, and wants to be on their team and stands up against the real bad guys, who are the men who abuse the *women*." The patriarchy he speaks of invented this definition of manhood and has been teaching it to boys for millenia. From The Rape of Lucretia to The Birth of a Nation, this is what men have been taught their role in society is. Feminism is just another damsel in distress tale.
2
It hasn't been debunked, but you need to read that whole study. Hint: Look for the words "made to penetrate." https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/sexualviolence/fastfact.html
2
His idea of a "new definition of manhood" is a picture perfect description of the patriarchal idea of chivalry that's dominated Western literature from The Rape of Lucretia to The Birth of a Nation. Feminism constantly exploits and excerbates elements of "patriarchy" that suit women's interests.
2
@Quinn Dang So I'm entitled if I expect a wink and a medal for saving a galaxy!?
1
I love how feminism calls itself progressive yet what he says we should teach our boys is a picture perfect description of old fashion chivalry.
1
@WizardRyn That's because feminists never measured the other side of the equation, and when one of them did, she immediately invented a euphemism to cover up her findings. Look up the term "made to penetrate."
1
@autisonm That's "one in five women are raped on college campus". That's a very different statistic from "1 in 5 women are sexually assaulted in their life time." Only a small fraction of your life is spent on a college campus.
1
Seeing a woman reward you with a wink and a medal for saving a fucking galaxy turns you into an entitled rapist?
1
Feminism is just another damsel in distress narrative, but the mustache twirling villain is patriarchy. And the damsel complains about her savior getting mud on her dress.
1
Except most of the villains in that show are female so it doesn't fit with his narrative. "A real man is someone who trusts his sisters and respects them, and wants to be on their team and stands up against the real bad guys, who are the men who abuse the *women*."
1
The CDC shows 1 in 5 women are raped in their lifetime....BUT they show similar numbers of men being "made to penetrate", which is the CDC's euphemism for female on male rape. This speaker is a textbook feminist. He says women have it worse without measuring the other side of the equation.
1
Also its completely factophobic to say "There must be a lot of assailants" because research shows rape is committed by a small number of repeat offenders.
1
This is brilliant! We should start teaching men to protect women and fight off bad men! I mean you never hear stories about kinghtly men rescuing princesses from towers, or untying damsels from train tracks, or avenging the honor of a raped woman and then changing Rome from a monarchy to a republic in her name! Nope, its just a bunch of male protagonists sexually assaulting women and then high-fiving the bad guys!
1
@sashalonins4336 Men are critiqued less than women, fucking seriously? Where is the #killallwomen hashtag? Where are the courses on toxic femininity? Who is saying "Where have all the good women gone?" publically? Even this speaker essentially said 'Not all men are bad people, but all bad people are men.'
1
@cowl6867 According to the speaker there are only male villains.
1
Most of the villains in Steven Universe are female, so Steven Universe actually teaches the polar opposite of what this guy said, which is: "A real man is someone who trusts his sisters and respects them, and wants to be on their team and stands up against the real bad guys, who are the men who abuse the women "
1
I still cannot believe people miss the fact that he just gave a picture perfect description of old school chivalry, which has been the dominant force in Western literary canon for millenia (The Rape of Lucretia, Rapunzel, The Birth of A Nation to name a few examples), and then called it 'a new definition of manhood.'
1
Apparently everyone's failed to be educated because they don't realize what this guy is saying we should do is teach the same old school chivalry men have been taught for millenia.
1
@KossolaxtheForesworn No, they just transferred it to the state.
1
You think rapists look up to the heroes in movies, or that a guy get a wink and a medal for saving an entire fucking galaxy will make someone entitled!? Both those ideas are batshit crazy. And no, there aren't "a lot of assailants", study after study shows sexual assault is committed by a small number of repeat offenders.
1
"1 in 4 women are raped on college campus the BS statistic", not "1 in 5 women will be raped in their life time." This statistic can not only be obtained directly, put it can be calculated through a lot of other statistics (for example how many rapes result in pregnancy, the number of abortions that are due to rape, etc.) HOWEVER, he's totally ignoring the other hidden epidemic, which the elite are making a conscious effort to suppress. Made to penetrate. The CDC's euphemism for female on male rape.
1
"It's a common stereotype that it is a boy's duty to protect girls." Which is exactly what this guy says we should raise boys to do with the 'new' definition of manhood he proposes.
1
@saphireeyes Where is the ownership in tales like The Rape of Lucretia and The Birth of A Nation, both of which are about chivalrous men avenging women's honor and were rallying cries for men to overthrow the system?
1
No, according to this guy we should rebaptize old-fashion chivalry as "feminism" and then call it revolutionary.
1
Chivalry 101
1
He wants us to teach our sons old school chivalry and call it "a new definition of manhood."
1
Rebranding old school chivalry as feminism.
1
Feminism = chivalry - gratitude.
1
Women are just as likely to be elected when they run. The problem is they don't run.
1
Jon Dough It's a true statistic but a bullshit assumption to say 1 in 5 men sexually assault women. Sexual assault is committed by a small number of repeat offenders. It's actually more like 1 in 25 men, which perfectly matches the percentage of men who are sociopaths. The idea rapists look up to the heroes in movies is insane.
