  5. People who want to divide Americans tell blacks nothing has changed since the days they were enslaved and society never recognized slavery as wrong (I'm exaggerating, but you get the point). Celebrating the end of slavery is the polar opposite of that.

  6. How? You could say the same about St. Patrick's Day or Cinco De Mayo. All the beneficiaries of emancipation happened to be black, just like all the beneficiaries of Saint Patrick happened to be Irish. So what?
