No, there could be no cohesive "shadow government" because all their interests are in conflict. If someone discovers free energy, that will be terrible for the energy industry but great for everyone else, because everything about how they run their business would become cheaper.

Don’t other countries, like Germany, do a lot more to keep money out of politics? And yet they haven’t developed free energy. Heck what about countries that aren’t or weren’t capitalist at all? Where was their anti-gravity and zero-point energy?

As much as I like this channel, we shouldn't generalize about politicians or businessmen. The cynical and bleak is not always and enlightened. Politicians are humans, and as such can be evil or good. Everyone knows nothing feel quite as good as a "stick-it-to-the-man" rush, but that's just intellectual opium.

If there's a "shadow government" run by corporations, it can't be a cohesive unit. Keeping people paying for gas is great for the gas industry, but terrible for everyone else. Imagine how much businesses could save on their expenses if no one had to pay for gas. Heck, imagine how much easier the personal lives of every CEO would be. At best we have competing corporate interests whacking people.

I'm trying to process all this. I like AJ but this one feels overly cynical. Some thoughts: 1) This seems like "Broken Window Economics". What people tend to forget is that someone who no longer spends his money on, say, gasoline for his car, is now spending it elsewhere. So Zero Point Energy would indeed harm the gas industry, but it would be a boon for every other industry on the planet. Is it just that's more dangerously to deeply tick off one industry by inventing something than to slightly tick off the others by suppressing the invention? I guess that's vaguely plausible. 2) Wouldn't being the birth place of something like Zero Point Energy be a great way to increase US dominance across the globe, especially since we import most of our oil, last I checked? If the corporations and the US government are in cahoots, wouldn't they want more power of the US government? 3) Why would anyone suppress an invention that increases longevity? Don't rich people want to live long lives too? Who is behind whacking Dotto? The medical industry? Even that seems suspicious, because you can't medicate a dead man.
