@rentslave There would be no Easter without Christmas, who cares?

I"m a white Texas Republican and I'm very disturbed by the salty and logiphobic response I saw to this holiday yesterday. Although I'll never submit to the lies of BLM, it is unsettling to see how ingrained racism still is in our culture when people came make obviously biased objections to this holiday. I fear for the fabric of our nation.

Isn't 4th of July redundant by that same logic? Washington fought for independence and already has his own holiday, so why do we need two?
2
@bobhunt4402 Okay, one celebrates emancipation, the other celebrates a man (Lincoln).
2
The only applied to freed slaves, not the free descendants of slaves, and even back then there were a lot of those.
2
Haven't all races been oppressed by monarchs at one point? So I guess no more 4th of July.
2
What's a "real holiday"?
2
Is St. Patrick's Day celebrating one nationality over another? What about Cinco De Mayo?
2
@SunRise-lr7ch But do you have a problem with those holidays?
2
"But no mention of those who also helped the slaves in the past get free" Look at the f*cking mural.
2
Because all the beneficiaries of emancipation were black, we shouldn't celebrate emancipation? That's like saying if 12 white people are killed in a mass shooting you shouldn't hold a funeral procession for them because that would be racist. How is this any different than St. Patrick's Day?

@birdeyeviewschannel6416 So racially divisive holidays are okay as long as they don't close Wall Street? What? Pot, meet kettle.
1
"Now we just need to continue to work to fulfill the promise of freedom for all people." Assuming you mean people in the US, what are you talking about?
1
@alexandrajackson8498 But its thanks to July 4th that when blacks were freed, they became citizens of their own country rather than a British colony.
1
Taking joy in the fact that slavery is over is self-pity? That doesn't make any sense. That's completely backwards.
1
@kiaraditmasa No its like the Jews asking the Germans to celebrate their liberation, which they would do in a heart beat.
1
No, woke is "Booohooo, poor black people, so little has changed for them since they were first brought over here on a boat." Celebrating the end of slavery is the polar opposite of wokeness. The more you follow the woke narrative, the more you believe things haven't changed since then and, logically, the less worth celebrating emancipation would be.
